Watusi Cattle
Though often dismissed as a novelty, the Ankole-Watusi has much to offer the U.S. beef industry. Adaptation to harsh environments, excellent maternal abilities, high butterfat milk, and lean beef are among its assets.
Watusi are medium in size and elegant in appearance. Cows weigh 900-1,200 pounds and bulls weigh 1,000-1.600 pounds. The most noticeable feature of the breed is their horns, which have a large base and great length. Cattle may be solid colored or spotted.
We cross our Watusi cows with an Angus bull. The calves grew well and we had our first one processed May 2021 and we couldn't be happier with the meat.
We currently have a Longhorn bull with the cows. Our Longhorn herd is getting old, so we are breeding for some replacement heifers this year.
